A lovely mid week wind down as the sun sets and we relax into the weekend with some asana to warm up the body and lying down guided meditation to bring coolness and calm.
We begin with light movements, visualization and breath work to warm up the body, then 55 minutes of divine yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra).
What is it?
Yoga Nidra is deceptively simple. Because it is taught lying down it's appealing to people who might feel intimidated by yoga postures or traditional seated meditation. Its various elements, taken together and practiced regularly, make up a sophisticated set of mindbody tools that can help practitioners navigate some of life's harshest moments.
How it works
Yoga Nidra is the state of being between sleep and wakefulness where the relaxation response and regeneration occur. This healing practice relieves stress patterns by retraining the nervous system to relax which creates a natural setting for the body to heal itself. Yoga Nidra is the perfect supplement to yoga, therapy, meditation, and other healing modalities or can be used alone.
Science Agrees
Yoga Nidra has been proven through studies at Stanford, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and other universities to help reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, trauma, depression, high blood pressure, insomnia, addiction and cholesterol, and increases overall calm and feelings of well-being, enhances creativity and motivation, strengthens the endocrine system, and balances the nervous system.
SC is a Los Angeles native who has lived on the East Coast and abroad, returning to LA to live, work and play. After working in social services for twenty years, She began to study stress and trauma and their effects on the mind and body, and discovered through research and training how the body can heal itself.
She is a Yoga Madre 500 hour RYT (advanced training) with Rene’ Quenell, is a LIfeForce Yoga Practitioner Level 2, and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. SC has been trained by Richard Miller in Level 1 iRest Yoga Nidra for individuals and groups. iRest is a ten-step meditation-based program that utilizes deep relaxation techniques to enhance wellbeing and emotional and mental balance.
SC utilizes this technique with students and clients who have chronic illnesses, emotional imbalances, sleepless nights, bouts of anger, depression and anxiety, and PTSD. She also works individually with clients in LA and Pasadena as a Licensed Psychotherapist working with trauma and substance abuse, integrating prescriptive yoga and meditation into the healing process.

Yoga Nidra is a state between sleep and wakefulness that fosters relaxation and regeneration. It retrains the nervous system to relieve stress and supports self-healing. It can complement yoga, therapy, and meditation or be practiced independently.
No prior experience is necessary. Yoga Nidra is suitable for everyone, regardless of yoga or meditation experience. All you need to do is relax and follow the guidance.
Layers of clothing as the room may be cold or warm, a yoga mat, and a mask if needed around other people.
A workshop can be an hour and a half or more, containing different breath, work, poses, visualizations, and a Yoga Nidra meditation that can be anywhere from 35 to 55 minutes long.
Research shows that Yoga Nidra brings improvements in emotional self-regulation and can reduce levels of depression, stress and anxiety. The end result is increased mood, quality of life and well-being.
The type of Nidra that is offered here is called iRest, and is a toolbox of trauma-sensitive practices designed to help those who experience chronic pain, trauma, overwhelm and hyper vigilance.
These practices were developed to help people find a sense of ease and spaciousness in daily life, manage their pain, and build resiliency.
It takes place somewhere between sleep and wakefulness, and 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra can equal the benefits of many hours of deep sleep. Some people fall asleep during Yoga Nidra, but that is not the goal.
Yoga Nidra can be practiced daily, weekly, monthly, or whenever you make time for it. Every single session is beneficial.
Yes, anyone can do Yoga Nidra. It is taught with a student lying down, but the student can also be sitting or standing. It is accessible for children, teens, and adult adults.
Our Yoga Nidra sessions happen on a monthly basis. If you missed the latest date, just fill out the form and we will let you know when the next session date will be held.
